Stream Protection
The State of the Streams in Frederick County

What we do on land affects our waterways
Every time the rain falls it collects nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment off the roadways and washes it into our streams and rivers – and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay. Hundreds of thousands to a million pounds are washed into the Chesapeake Bay from its contributing waterways each year. Go to: http://www.cbf.org and read “Action for Cleaner Highways” to learn how you can help.
Learn how to stop illegal runoff at construction sites!
Take action against one of the biggest problems in our watershed: polluted runoff from construction sites. In our new “Get the DIRT Out” volunteer program, residents learn how to evaluate the polluted runoff violations on construction sites, report violations, and help ensure that construction sites are not contaminating our rivers and streams. Check out Get the DIRT Out Volunteer Training.
