Earth Day: Celebrate with Friends of Frederick County
Each year on April 22nd Friends of Frederick County hosts an Earth Day event at the Delaplaine Center for Art Education. We honor our young artists whose line drawings were selected by a panel of independent judges in an art contest that was held for 6 months and open to ALL kids living in Frederick County (under age 18). Their drawings are used for the Captain Green Greens Frederick County coloring book and annotated with information about how we can address some of the environmental issues we face in Frederick County. The 2009 event, organized by FoFC’s volunteer Nancy Izant, was a lively evening where the young artists, their families and teachers heard from local leaders in the recycling business (e-END electronic recycling), organic farming (Summer Creek Farm) and organic product development (Terressentials body products) and laughed with Saskia Van Oot’s interactive theatre!
