2011 Accomplishments
Friends of Frederick County mission remains: to preserve the unique character and quality of life in Frederick County, Maryland through public education, active civic engagement and government oversight.
In 2011 we:
- presented to the public the true expense of residential growth and impacts on schools, roads, sensitive areas and waterways
- educated and advocated for policy to ensure adequate public facilities and environmental protection
- provided legal respresentation to challenge the illegalities of New Market’s Municipal Growth Plan
- provided legal representation to challenge the illegalities of the 2011 Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Review
- educated on Frederick County’s privatization initiative
- educated on Frederick County’s budget, and the truth on the numbers
- educated on developer proposed mitigation fee option for schools
- sponsored the Spring and Fall IMAGINE! Frederick film and discussion series on economic, environmental and social sustainability issues
- provided monthly policy and event updates through FoFC’s e-newsletter, website and facebook
- partnering sponsor of the Maryland Clean Energy Center Renewable Energy Book Camp webinar series for planning community clean energy
- coordinated month-long eco-art display at the Deleaplaine Visual Arts Education Center
- sponsored Earth Day Celebration of 25 eco artists whose artwork is featured in the 2011 coloring book
